Payton was a young black man who had the opportunity to marry the supreme leader of the black community. But first he must leave a secret, the unborn child of the old maid. She desperately needs money and time from her fiancé, who doesn’t know anything about the baby. He finds a way out for the wealthy and stubborn Gregory Devereaux (Keith David), an ordinary old man from his favorite dinner of the night. Employed by Devereauxs a girl from whom he is separated as a guardian, Payton quickly became Gregory’s confidant, and Payton’s problems seem to go away. But as Devereaux neared death – and the marriage and baby drew closer – Gregory’s past sins forced Payton to focus on his own decisions as a person. He must choose: marry a rich man, or do good.
