Introduction
NRN Infrastructure and Development Limited (NRNIDL) was established in September 2012 in Kathmandu, Nepal, under the Company Act 2063. Initially registered as NRN Investment Limited, the company later rebranded to its current name on February 2, 2017, reflecting its broadened scope and commitment to infrastructure and development. Over the years, NRNIDL has expanded its operations and investments across multiple sectors, including renewable energy, banking and financial institutions, and alternative investments that align with national priorities.The company’s primary objective is to mobilize the knowledge, skills, capital, and resources of Non-Resident Nepalis (NRNs) and other stakeholders to contribute to Nepal’s socio-economic development. This focus aligns with Nepal’s liberalized policies that encourage private sector participation in the development and operation of hydropower projects, addressing the country’s growing demand for energy. Despite the high expectations for the energy sector, significant progress is still awaited, highlighting the importance of strategic investments.

Our Story
Legislative Framework
The NRN Act 2064 B.S. in section 7 has provisioned for the investment by Non-Resident Nepali and NRN Rules 2066 B.S. provisions about the procedural requirements. Based on this legal provisions NRN residing all over the world joined hands together to establish NRN Infrastructure and Development Limited.
Establishment of NRNIDL
NRN Infrastructure and Development Limited (NRNIDL) was established as a Public Limited Company, registered with the Company Registrar’s Office in Kathmandu. The company was founded to fulfill the collective objective of participating in Nepal’s development through direct investment.
First Undertaking
NRN Infrastructure and Development Limited initiated 27 MW Dordi Khola Hydropower Project as its first undertaking aligning with the Nepal Government’s “Investment Year 2012/2013” initiative.
Hydropower Development
Hydropower was selected as the initial focus due to its potential to contribute significantly to the socio-economic development of Nepal, its market potential, price stability, and value addition to national resources. Its alignment with the local market presented a promising investment opportunity.
Diaspora Engagement
The collective investment concept resonated with a large number of Nepali communities living abroad. NRNIDL played a pivotal role in attracting and facilitating investment from the Nepali diaspora, particularly for those who had limited time to operate enterprises but were eager to contribute to Nepal’s development.
